Ireland, Portmanock - A great golf experience
Ireland is renowned for its string of championship courses. In Portmanock you find one of the country's best golf courses - a links adventure you definitely want to experience.
The emerald island is and remains perhaps golf's greatest treasure chest to dip into, and no wonder.
Anyone looking for links golf will find 40 percent of the world's golfing population here and there are many pearls. We chose to go to Portmarnock and the two courses Portmarnock and The Links, Portmarnock.
The old championship course Portmarnock provides access to green fee players several days a week, but it is best to call in advance to see exactly what applies during your visit. The course was built in 1895 and is a classic where Harry Vardon got par as early as 1899. There have been careful changes through the years, but most of them look like they were intended from the outset.
The name Portmarnock is mentioned with respect as one of Europe's finest courses and the wind is a problem most days of the year. The same applies at The Links, Portmarnock. Here Bernhard Langer has designed a course that appears to have always been there. Just like at the neighbouring course Portmarnock, the wind is your worst enemy.

Easily played it is not and if you are a high handicapper perhaps you should consider an extra round if you really must choose Portmarnock for your golf vacation. If on the other hand you have played for a number of years, the experience will be great. The fairways are hard and sweeping, balls drop incessantly off the greens and the view is magnificent from most holes. You stay at the course hotel and if it is windswept on the 18th hole, you can relax in a nice environment after the round.
For those looking for action, we can inform you that Dublin is located only 20 minutes away with a nightlife that will satisfy the most discerning traveller. In short, a great place.
