Cocotal GCC
A 27-hole golf complex designed by the Spaniard José “Pepe” Gancedo, a seven-time amateur champion in Spain. Gancedo used the surroundings of an ancient coconut plantation to build a course which is characterized by its variety of tropical fruit trees, palm trees and lofty coconut palms which are found distributed throughout the entire course. The course was made in order to allow the most talented players to stand out, and it has already been the venue for several Dominican championships. It requires complete play from a player, since its architect Gancedo uses the terrain as well as the breezes to drive play. Typical of golf courses located near the coast, the breeze will always be a factor in the game. The first holes invite the player to loosen up and get used to the field, and then demand his maximum effort to get to the 18th hole in good condition. The Meliá Golf Academy offers classes taught by professional instructors. Since it is part of a large and successful residential development, the clubhouse is a meeting point for both tourists and residents with its nice atmosphere. This course is next to the Meliá Caribe / Tropical hotel complex and the area's leading shopping mall, the Palma Real Shopping Village.
